Together with Thortveitite and Aeschynite It is among the most interesting and outstanding minerals of the district. When the quarries were active Gadolinite xls from the district may reach 30-40 cm in length and weigh several kgs. Since the mineral is very brittle undamaged specime were hard to be recovered anyway.  Xl colour is deep brown or black . the mineral has a peculiar monocklin habit and xls are  usully embedded in K-Feldspar and/or quartz. The best specimen have been probably provided by the Frigstad area in Iveland district.  In this page we offer you a really remarkable selection of this rare mineral .  In the gallery you may enjoy really good miniature specimens on matrix of sharp beatiful Gadolinite xl  on matrix.  Gadolinite in Størbrekka quarry occur inside a thick pegmatitic body (5-10 m) embedded in K-Feldspar, Quartz and Biotite. Typical associated minerals are fergusonite, magnetite, polikras, samarskite and Columbite
