Montevecchio Area


The Montevecchio area is included into two Communes , Guspini and Arbus  and this mines complex has been exploited for 137 years , during which tons of raw materia containing galena sphalerite   with accessory silver have been processed

Different mineralization are present in the various bodies , and are the product of single intrusive magmatic events. There are several mines in this area  which followed the mineralized veins that run E-W parallel to the schist: Piccalina, S. Antonio , Mezzena , Sanna, Genna , Naracauli...and so on.

Lot of minerals specimens were collected in various years of activity. Among all the most famous  minerals know from this area are Anglesite and Cerussite. Anglesite was found both in geodes of massive galena and in pockets of black limonitic matrix . The most famous are the green color crystals with coul reach few cm in lenght. Cerussite was common in the oxidized zone of galena bodies as superb specimens  exhibiting crystals  of several cm lenght . It was usually found as disordered aggregates  of white needles in pockets.

Other caracteristic minerals are Brochantite, Smithsonite Piromorphite mainly found in th south are of Ingurtusu   sometimes in association with little wufenite crystals
